Graphics are a constant difficulty I have not been able to get switchable graphics working at all, although I have had success getting either the Nvidia card or the Intel card working. Wifi often does not work out of the box, although getting it running is fairly easy (see link 1). Hardware support is a big issue with this computer. Here are links to all of the documentation I have found helpful getting Linux working on my rMBP:Įven though most of the documentation pertains to Arch, I have found it helpful on any of the distros that I have tried. I recommend trying Arch on this laptop at least once, because it really is your best bet for getting Linux to run well on the rMBP.

I have so far tried several distros, including Ubuntu, Linux Mint, OpenSUSE, various Ubuntu Derivatives, and more, but only Arch has really allowed me to configure the OS really well to my laptop. Arch offers unparalleled customization right from the start, which I found crucial to getting my rMBP set up with Linux. While Arch Linux is always a fantastic distro, I have never liked it so much as when I installed it on this computer.

I love Linux, and so not long after getting my Retina Macbook Pro, I set out to install Linux on it. Linux is so open, so customizable, that really you can make the OS something unique and entirely yours. It has a solid UNIX base, a great GUI, and an abundance of software available.
